> GRANBURY — Robert James Murray, 81, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013.
Funeral service: 10:30 am Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the First Christian Church, Granbury.
Visitation: 6 – 8 pm Friday, June 21, 2013 at the funeral home.
Mr. Murray was born October 14, 1931 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, N.D. to Clair Patrick Murray and Helen Harper Murray. He attended Sacred Heart Parocial School. He was in the 1949 Yankton High School Class. He joined the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1952. He graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in political science in 1958. Bob was a member of the Beta Theta Pi #595.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean Mutchler
Bob enjoyed a career in juvenile footwear beginning with Buster Brown, continuing with Weber-StrideRite-Bass-Jumping Jacks and ending with Cole Haan.
In 1990 Bob married Kathryn Pipes in Kerrville, Texas.
In 1992 they built a home in DCBE and have enjoyed their life together with church, family, golf, shopping, gardening and travel.
Bob has served on the Board of Directors of DCBE, many committees both community and church. He has been a deacon, elder and board of trustee member for the First Christian Church, Granbury, and a lifetime member of the Elks, Two Ten Shoe Travelers Foundation and Beta Theta Pi. He was most loved as a true and just friend. He truly was a gentle man.
Survivors: wife, Kathryn Murray; children, Lisa Murray (Sean Rearden), Tom Murray, Karen Roberts (Rick McCarthy), Robyn Cawyer; three grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews an a multitude of friends.
