Lometa Murl Wann, age 89, born October 30, 1928, at the family home in Paluxy Community. She grew up on the family farm and began her education at Paluxy School House. She is a Tolar HS Graduate, 1946. Her college studies began at Tarleton College, then North Texas SWU; graduating with Bachelors in Fashion Design. She continued her education @ Texas A&M College, being one of the first women to attend in the 1950’s during summer semesters. She later earned a Master of Education degree from Tarleton State University.
She was a lifelong educator in Texas Public Schools, retiring after 35+years and continuing to substitute teach 10 more years, 4th grade at Glen Rose ISD. She taught from her heart and her students as adults always recognized her, expressing their love and how she made a difference in their life. Earlier in her life she was active in Beta Sigma Phi, a delegate to the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago and outdoor activities with her family, e.g. camping, fishing, picnicking from Mexico to British Columbia. She enjoyed traveling with the Seniors, reading books, and being an active member of Paluxy Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin W. Wann and Montie Ethel Holmes Wann, brother James Wann, brother-in-law Dalvin (Buster) Edwards, and her children’s father Jerry Barton.
She is survived by daughter Laurie Lou Barton; son J. Dean Barton and wife, Victoria Barton, their children daughter Amber Barton Ross and husband Walker Ross, Sheila Steele Hughes and husband Dan Hughes, daughter Liz Lee Kaplan and husband, Tom Kaplan, daughter Crisi Lee, and son Rio Lee; daughter Belinda Lea Barton Smith and husband, Larry Edward Smith, their children William B. Smith and wife Jamie Lee May Smith, Kyle E. Smith, Stephen L. Smith; great-grandchildren Annabel and Aubrey Jo Ross, Liam and Nora Smith, Jamey and Jacob Hughes, Austin Kaplan, Jake Vanderpool.
Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2017, Paluxy Baptist Church, Paluxy.
Interment: Brooks Cemetery, Paluxy.
Visitation: 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2017, Martin’s Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Paluxy Baptist Church.

We will miss Lometa and her smiling face at Paluxy gatherings. She was a very special person, educator and teacher. We enjoyed her stories and family history that she shared with us. We loved her as a cousin and a friend. She will be missed by all who knew her. Our prayers go out to her family.
