GRANBURY — Jack D. Carter, 80, of Granbury passed away at his residence on Saturday, March 17, 2012.
Memorial service: 7 p.m. Monday in Martin’s Funeral Home Chapel.
Memorials: The family suggests memorials be made in Jack’s name to Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth St., Santa Monica, Calif. 90401.
Jack was born Aug. 6, 1931, in Parsons, Kan., to Beulah and Delbert Carter. He was raised in Parsons, graduating from high school, marrying his first wife, O’Reta Carter, and began his young family there. He joined the Navy and retired as a senior chief petty officer after 38 years of service, 16 active duty years and 22 years of reserve duty. He worked for the civil service and retired after 20 years. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
He moved to Granbury with his daughter in January of 1995. In Granbury he met and married his second wife, June. He loved to travel, read, watch movies and liked reminiscing with old stories to everyone. He raised orchids and made his own round greenhouse. He also enjoyed woodworking and made doll houses that were detailed and precise. He even copied Ethan Allen Furniture that he put in the doll houses.
Jack was a very happy, optimistic person who loved life, joking with or harassing everyone because he truly never met a stranger and he especially loved his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, O’Reta; second wife, June; and a sister, Patricia Myers.
Survivors: Sons and their wives, Rodney and Dolores Carter of Brandywine, Md., Steven and Shelly Carter of Mechanicsville, Md.; daughter, Danette L. Carter of Granbury; stepsons, Chris Marshall of Victoria, B.C., Canada, and Mark and wife, Lori Smith, of Oakpoint; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.
