Charles was born in Abilene, TX on June 16, 1939 to Dorothy Delia Beard and Woodrow Wilson Nichols. At the age of 8 his beloved grandparents, Charlie and Effie Nichols, began raising him. He married Zelma Faye Hurst on July 27, 1956 in Big Spring, TX.
Charles was a hardworking handyman for several different companies. One of his favorite occupations was working as a Disney character at Disney World. He portrayed Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck and a Chipmunk.
He had a great sense of humor, loved makiple laugh and never knew a stranger. He was known as “Po Po” to his kids and grandkids. He was a very colorful, animated fellow and had many friends. He loved Elvis, slick cars, dancing, pro football, Texas Rangers, Lotto and all things cowboy. He was a life long Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Nichols; sisters, Josie Cannon and Sammie Woolever and a grandson, Aaron Parrott.
Survivors: Mother, Dorothy Helm; sister, Sue Branch; daughters, Susan McDonald and husband George, Jo Ann Long and husband Larry, Connie Lee and husband Marchelle, Linda Bennis and husband Bill, Charlotte Durham and husband Mark; son, Charles Nichols II; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Pallbearers: Grandsons, Jason Nichols, Jarrod Bennis, Jeffrey Long, Billy Long, Brandon Long and Troy Yates.
