GRANBURY
Billie M. Hughes of Granbury, 74, passed away Friday, April 6, 2012 in Fort Worth.
Funeral services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Church of Christ Church. Interment: Holly Hills Memorial Park.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Martin’s Funeral Home.
Bill was born in Wellington in 1932 and graduated from Paradise High School in 1951. He was baptized in Eunice, N.M. in 1960. He worked for EP Natural Gas in west Texas, Warren Petroleum and Mitchell Energy in Bridgeport. He also owned a Shell Station in Fort Worth at one time. He was known by fellow employees as the “Walking Horse” because of his fast pace at all time.
He served in the United States Army Armored Division where he was a tank commander from 1952 to 1954, during the Korean War.
Bill loved his church family and helping others. He enjoyed restoring cars, and was the main mechanic for family and friends for years. He loved all sports, playing fast pitch softball and played basketball with children and grandchildren. He loved water sports and especially loved pulling his grandchildren on water skis. Bill was an avid snow skier for many years.
Bill was preceded in earth by wife, Juanelle Kuykendal Hughes; his parents, and brother, Joie “Joe” Hughes.
Survivors: Wife of 11 years, Ann Austin Hughes; children, Russell Hughes and wife Suzanne, Steve Hughes and wife Patsy, Vicki Black and husband Rob, Mike Austin and wife, Susan, Bonita Whitney and husband Richard, Eric Austin and wife Julie; brothers, Leslie “Buck” Hughes, Richard Hughes and wife Delora “Teo”, Sherrie Lynn Templeton and husband Terry; sisters-in-law, Mary Jewel Hughes and Mildred Ragsdale.
